Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

NOTE: An out-of-calibration ECT sensor may not set a DTC, but may result in a driveability complaint.

A malfunction in Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor can set a DTC. For testing procedures and specifications, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.0L TRACKER article or DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.5L TRACKER article. Use the following procedure to test sensor calibration.

Locate and remove ECT sensor from thermostat housing. Using DVOM, measure resistance of ECT sensor at specified temperatures. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not within specification, replace ECT sensor.
