Rear Object Sensor Housing Replacement: Procedure

  1. Remove the rear fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement .
  2. Fig 1: View Of Rear Object Sensor

  3. Disconnect the sensor harness.
  4. Remove the sensor from the sensor housing.
  5. IMPORTANT: Do not refinish previously painted sensors. Excessive paint build up will cause the sensor to be inoperative.
  6. Paint the new sensor. Refer to Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems
  7. Inspect the paint thickness to ensure it does not exceed 6 mm using a paint thickness gauge suitable for non-ferrous metals. Refer to Paint Gages

    IMPORTANT: Do Not grind off alignment tabs.
  9. Sand/grind sonic weld plastic residue from the fascia.

  11. Apply structural adhesive epoxy, Lord Fusor™ 127EZ or equivalent, to fascia at mating surface.

  13. Using the alignment tabs, install the sensor housing to the fascia.
  14. Allow adhesive to cure according to manufacturer's directions.

  16. Install the sensor to the sensor housing.
  17. Connect the electrical harness.
  18. Install the rear fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement .
