Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Yukon XL, 2003 GMC Yukon, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.
  1. Install the fan clutch bolts.
  2. Install the fan clutch onto the fan blade, if necessary.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the fan clutch bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

  4. Install the fan blade.

  5. Install the J 46406  and the J 41240-5A  to the fan clutch.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the fan clutch nut clockwise to 56 N.m (41 lb ft).

  6. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT - UPPER (W/O M74)  or FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT - UPPER (W/M74)  .
