Power Steering Pump Disassemble: Notes

  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (2.0L)  or Power Steering Pump Replacement (2.5L) .
  2. Clean the pump exterior thoroughly.
  3. Mount the pump in a table vise.
  4. Remove the following components from the pump body:
    • The power steering gear outlet hose connector bolt
    • The power steering gear outlet hose connector (1)
    • The O-ring

  5. Remove the pressure switch (1) from the pump body.
  6. Remove the flow control valve from the pump body.

  8. Remove the 4 bolts (1,2,3,4) from the pump in order to remove the rear pump cover and the O-ring seal from the pump body.

  10. Remove the cam ring (1) from the pump shaft.
  11. IMPORTANT: During disassembly, ensure that the vanes are kept together and identified so that they can be reinstalled in the original locations.
  12. Remove the vanes from the rotor.

  14. Remove the following components from the pump body:
    • The snap ring (3)
    • The rotor (2)
    • The side plate
    • The O-rings
  15. Remove the shaft with the pulley attached from the pump body.
  16. Remove the oil seal from the pump body.
