Fuel Tank Draining Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  2. Insert the J 45004  into the fuel tank through the fuel tank fill pipe until the hose reaches the bottom of the fuel tank. See Special Tools .
  3. Use a hand or air operated pump device in order to drain as much fuel from the fuel tank as possible.
  4. Remove the J 45004  from the fuel tank fill pipe. See Special Tools .
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Loosen the fuel tank fill hose clamp (1) at the fuel tank.
  7. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent rear pipe quick connect fitting (4) from the recirculation line on the fuel fill pipe (3). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  8. Separate the fuel tank fill hose from the fuel tank.
  9. Insert the J 45004  into the fuel tank through the fuel tank opening. See Special Tools .
  10. Use the hand or air operated pump device again, drain as much fuel from the fuel tank as possible.
