Removal Procedure

WARNING: Do not use a service jack to lift this vehicle. Lifting the vehicle with a jack could cause the vehicle to slip off the jack and roll; this could cause injury or death.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering linkage inner tie rod nut.
  4. Fig 1: Steering Gear Boot Components

  5. Remove the outer boot clamp (1).

    Discard the clamp.

  6. Cut the inner boot clamp (3).

    Discard the clamp.

  7. Remove the steering gear boot (2).
  8. Clean the steering linkage inner tie rod and the steering gear boot contact area of any lubricant or debris.
