Fuel Tank Draining

Special Tools

WARNING:

Never drain or store fuel in an open container. Always use an approved fuel storage container in order to reduce the chance of fire or explosion.

WARNING:

Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  2. NOTE:

Lubricate the fuel drain hose with J 36850  Transjel Lubricant or equivalent to aid in hose insertion and removal. Do not use an unapproved lubricant.

  3. Insert the J 45004  fuel drain hose into the fuel tank until the hose reaches the bottom of the fuel tank.
  4. Use an air operated pump device in order to drain the fuel into an approved gasoline container.

Up to 26 liters (7 gallons) of residual fuel may remain in the secondary side of the fuel tank.

  5. Simultaneously twist and pull in order to remove the J 45004  fuel drain hose from the fuel tank.
