Removal Procedure
- Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
- Remove the nut (5) from the inner tie rod assembly.
- Remove the tie rod clamp (4).
- Use side cutters to remove the boot clamp (2).
- Discard the boot clamp.
- Remove the rack and pinion boot (3).
IMPORTANT:
After removing the boot, inspect the inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If none is evident, continue with the repair. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear.
