Preliminary Procedures
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .

Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Nut Procedure
- Use paint in order to place match marks on the steering linkage inner tie rod nut and on the steering linkage inner tie rod.
- During installation, align the match marks.
- Do not tighten the nut during installation. Tighten the nut after adjusting the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment

Steering Gear Boot Inner Clamp Procedure
- Cut the old steering gear boot inner clamp.
Discard the clamp.
- Use the J-22610
pliers in order to crimp the new steering gear inner boot clamp.

Steering Gear Boot Procedure
- After removing the boot, inspect the inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If none is evident, continue with the repair. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
- Ensure the new steering gear boot is seated in the assembly groove of the steering gear.
