Installation Procedure
- Position the steering gear (1) in the vehicle through the left wheel opening.
- Install a NEW power steering fluid cooling pipe O-ring seal.
- Connect the power steering fluid cooling pipe to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Cooling Pipe Replacement .
- Install a NEW power steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal.
- Connect the power steering gear inlet hose to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement .
- Install the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement .
- On the right side of the frame, connect the 2 retainers and the power steering fluid cooling pipe (1) to the frame.
- Install the 2 steering gear bolts (1, 3) and the 2 nuts (2, 4). Hold the nuts and tighten the steering gear bolts to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).
- Install the rear engine mount. Refer to Engine Rear Mount Replacement .
- Connect both of the outer tie rods to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
- Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear pinion shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
- Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the J-42640 pin from the steering column.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
- Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
- Remove the drain pans.
- Measure and adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment .
