Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. WARNING:

    Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning .

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  4. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  5. Ensure that the fuel level in the tank is less than 1/4 full. If necessary, drain the fuel tank to at least this level.
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  7. Remove the front exhaust muffler assembly. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Front .

  9. Disconnect the fuel tank filler hose (1) and clamp.
  10. Disconnect the fuel tank vent pipe connector (2).
  11. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe connector (3).
  12. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge pipe connector (4).
  13. Disconnect the fuel tank electrical extension connector (5).
  14. Place a suitable jack under the fuel tank.
  15. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts (6) and straps.
  16. If needed, remove the parking brake cable retaining clamp and set it away from the path.
  17. Remove the fuel tank.
