Circuit/System Testing

Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 s.
Ignition ON.
Ignition OFF and wait at least 10 s.
Start the engine and keep the engine speed between 3, 500 and 4, 000 rpm for at least 1 m under no load.
With a scan tool, check that the engine coolant temperature is greater than 70°C (158°F).
Increase engine speed to between 2, 000 and 3, 000 rpm and hold it for 3 consecutive minutes then release the accelerator pedal completely.
With a scan tool, check that the catalyst monitor function has changed to Complete.
- If catalyst monitor function is Incomplete, repeat steps 7 and 8.
- If still Incomplete, stop engine and cool it down to less than 70°C (158°F)., then repeat steps 2 - 8.
Operate the vehicle under the conditions for running the DTC.
- If the DTC sets, check the following components
- Exhaust system for leaks before the catalytic converter.
- Ignition timing and idle speed.
- Fuel injectors.
- Weak or poor spark.
- Engine misfire.
- Damaged oxygen sensor or wiring harness
- If any of the above faults exist, repair as necessary.
- If no faults are found with the above components, replace the catalytic converter, refer to Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement
- Go to next step: If the DTC does not reset
