Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Steering Gear Boot Replacement 
  2. After removing the steering gear boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination.If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear. 1 Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod
CAUTION:

The pipe wrench must be placed at the input shaft end of the steering gear and positioned up against the inner tie rod housing. Placing the pipe wrench in any other location will cause damage to the steering gear.

Procedure

  1. Place a pipe wrench on the input shaft end of the steering gear rack next to the steering linkage inner tie rod housing and an appropriate size wrench on the flats of the inner tie rod housing.
  2. Rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod housing counterclockwise while holding the steering gear rack stationary until the inner tie rod separates from the rack.
  3. Rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod housing clockwise while holding the steering gear rack stationary until the inner tie rod tightens to the rack.
  4. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment

Tighten 
90 N.m (66 lb ft)
