Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Steering Gear Boot Replacement 
  2. After removing the steering gear boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear. Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement

CAUTION:

Holding the steering gear rack bar with anything other than a non-serrated adjustable wrench will cause damage to the steering gear

Procedure

  1. Cover the steering gear rack bar with a clean shop towel.
  2. Hold the steering gear rack bar with a non-serrated adjustable wrench.
  3. Rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod housing counterclockwise to remove the tie rod.
  4. Rotate the steering linkage inner tie rod housing clockwise to install the tie rod.

    Use the CH-6321  wrench and a torque wrench to tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod to specification.

  5. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment

Tighten 
100 N.m (74 lb ft)
