Baffle Specifications
For replacement of Baffles, the following points have to be observed:
- Remove the old Baffle (1). Cut the foam with a suitable tool (2).
- Clean the baffle foam contact surfaces on the body without damaging components. Apply corrosion resistant primer to bare sheet metal. Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems .
- Clean all contact surfaces on body and the Baffle. Use a solvent cleaner other than isopropyl alcohol do not use isopropyl alcohol. Ensure that contact surfaces are dust-free and free of grease.
- If necessary, modify the Baffle (1) to fit the body.
- If required, close all holes in the Baffle using a heavy viscosity seam sealer.
- Apply 3M 04248, Fusor 143, or equivalent to the Baffle.
- Install the Baffle to the body or the service part in the prepared location.
- For Baffles that require an expanding foam bead on the edge, use SEM 39357 Flexible urethane foam, 3M 08463 Flexible Foam, Kent URE Foam P10601 or and equivalent to reproduce factory foam appearance.
NOTE:
Corrosion resistant primer on bare metal provides proper corrosion resistance.
NOTE:
Ensure that the Baffle does not get displaced during the repair procedure. If necessary wait until the Fusor 143 has set (approximate 10 minutes).
For replacement of the Sealing Strips, the following points have to be observed:
- Clean the sealing strip contact surfaces on the body without damaging components. Apply corrosion resistant primer to bare sheet metal. Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems .
- Clean all contact surfaces on body. Use a solvent cleaner other than isopropyl alcohol. Do not use isopropyl alcohol. Ensure that contact surfaces are dust-free and free of grease
- For areas where sealing strips seal areas of minimal gap, 20 mm or less, use a high build two part NVH control material such ad SEM panel Vibration Control Material or 3M 04274 NVH Dampening material. Build up a bead sufficient to squeeze out in the same amount as the factory application. Then assemble the panel to the vehicle. These products remain open long enough to provide adequate assembly time.
