Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Control Module Learn
The Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Control Module Learn procedure must be completed when there is a column malfunction or when the Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Control Module is replaced.
When a malfunction occurred or replacing the control module
- Disconnect the battery. Wait 2 minutes. Reconnect the battery and wait 2 minutes. Ensure that all vehicle systems have powered down after battery reconnect.
- Ensure battery voltage is greater than 12 V. Start engine if possible.
- Hold the tilt-down button until the column stops moving and then release.
- Press and hold the tilt-down button for 5 to 8 seconds and then release. If the button press is not between 5 and 8 seconds, restart this step. A stopwatch may be needed.
- Firmly press and release the telescope-in button.
- Firmly press and release the tilt-up button.
- Firmly press and release the telescope-out button.
- Firmly press and release the tilt-down button.
- The column should begin to move on its own to learn its soft-stop positions. Do not press any buttons or operate any vehicle functions while the column is moving as the relearn sequence will be cancelled.
- If the column does not begin to move on its own, attempt steps 3 through 8. Three attempts may be required. Ensure that button timing and sequence is correct. If column still does not begin to move, attempt steps 1 through 8 again.
- If the column tilt and telescope does not function, replace the appropriate component as follows:
- If the Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Control Module has not been replaced previously, replace the module. Refer to Control Module References
- If the control module has already been replaced, replace the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (N37) , or Steering Column Replacement (N38)
NOTE:
The following 5 steps must be completed within 3 seconds of the previous step.
