Charging Systems: Alternators: Overhaul: Reassembly: Notes
- On all but 114 amp. alternators, position grease retainer and press on rotor shaft using suitable installer (C-3921). Retainer is properly positioned when inner bore of tool bottoms on rotor shaft.
- On all models, position rectifier end shield bearing on base of tool (C-4330 for 114 amp., C-4201 all others). Place end shield on top of bearing, aligning it properly. Press on top part of tool until end shield bottoms against base of press.
- Insert drive end bearing in drive end shield and install bearing retainer plate, or mounting screws. Install metal spacer (supplied with replacement rotors) on pulley end of rotor shaft. Position bearing and shield on rotor shaft and while supporting base of rotor shaft, press bearing and end shield into position. Use arbor press and tool C-3858.CAUTION: Make sure bearing is installed squarely to prevent damage. Press onto shaft until bearing contacts spacer on rotor shaft.
- Install pulley on rotor shaft, supporting shaft so that all pressing is on pulley hub and rotor shaft. Do not hammer.
