Evaporator-Heater Housing Assembly: Replacement

  1. Discharge refrigerant and disconnect battery. Drain cooling system and remove air cleaner. Disconnect heater hoses, and plug heater core tubes. Remove "H" valve and cap all refrigerant openings. Slide front seat to rear as far as possible.
  2. Remove instrument cluster and instrument panel upper cover. Remove steering column cover, right intermediate side cowl trim panel, and lower instrument panel. Remove center instrument panel, lower reinforcement and floor console (if equipped).
  3. Remove right center air distribution duct, and disconnect locking tab on defroster duct. Disconnect temperature control cable at evaporator housing. Disconnect blower motor resistor block wiring. Disconnect vacuum lines from water valve and vacuum source. Remove wiring from evaporator housing, Remove vacuum lines from inlet air housing and vacuum harness coupling.
  4. Remove drain tube and housing mounting nuts. Remove hanger strap from plenum stud. Roll evaporator assembly bock to clear dash panel and remove assembly from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedures.
    NOTE: Replacement procedures are similar for all vehicles, however minor configuration differences may exist between models.
