Exhaust Gas Recirculation Solenoid
The EGR solenoid is operated by the logic module. When engine temperature is below 70°F (21°C), the logic module energizes the solenoid by completing the ground circuit. This closes the solenoid valve and prevents ported vacuum from reaching the EGR valve. When the predetermined temperature is reached, the logic module will break the ground circuit, which opens the valve allowing vacuum to reach the EGR valve. The solenoid valve is also closed, preventing EGR operation, during idle and wide open throttle operation.
