1.6L, 2.2L & 2.5L (Except 2.2L Turbo)

NOTE: To assure proper operation of EGR system all passages and moving parts must be free from plugging or sticking as a result of deposits. It is also important for the entire system to be free from leaks, any hoses or components found to be leaking should be replaced.
  1. With engine at operating temperature, allow engine to run an additional 70 seconds. Attach a tachometer to engine. Accelerate engine abruptly to approximately 2000 RPM, but not over 3000 RPM.
  2. During this procedure check EGR valve stem for movement. Visible movement of valve stem should occur. Repeat test to confirm operation.
  3. Movement of stem indicates that control system is functioning correctly. If faulty operation is indicated, see TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
