Steering Column - Conquest: Disassembly
- Remove steering wheel and combination switch. Remove snap ring, stopper and spacer. See Figure. Using ignition key, unlock steering wheel.
- Lightly tap steering shaft with soft mallet and remove shaft from column. Remove cover from joint socket. Remove stopper, joint pin retainer and stopper. See Figure. Place steering shaft upright, using a magnet, remove joint pin "A" from both sides of socket while holding steering shaft downward. Remove joint socket.CAUTION: Use magnet to remove joint pin "A". DO NOT hammer on pin, as pin will not be able to be removed.
- Remove spring seat, spring and seat. Remove joint pin "B", joint bearing, joint cover and steering shaft cover. Remove spacer from steering shaft. Remove dust cover. Note location of column tube clamp.
- Remove column tube clamp, lower column tube and column bushing. To remove steering lock, cut a slot in retaining screws with hacksaw. Using a screwdriver, remove screws. Remove steering lock. Remove tilt knob, tilt link cover and upper column tube.
