TEST 5A - Courtesy Light System

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
  1. Open left front door. Check if courtesy lights are on. If some courtesy lights do not operate, perform TEST 5B . If all courtesy lights function correctly, turn ignition switch to ON position. Close all doors. If courtesy lights stay on, perform TEST 6A . If courtesy lights are off, go to next step.
  2. Ensure courtesy light switch, located on headlight switch, is turned off. Using DRB-II, actuate courtesy lights test. If courtesy lights are on, perform TEST 7A . If courtesy lights are off, remove and inspect fuse No. 12 at fuse block. If fuse is blown, perform TEST 12C . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  3. Using DRB-II, stop courtesy light test. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Probe input terminal (in fuse block) to fuse No. 12. If voltage is more than 10 volts, perform TEST 5C . If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove and inspect fuse "E" from power distribution center. Power distribution center is located in engine compartment near left shock tower.
  4. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, probe input terminal (in power distribution center) to fuse "E". If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair or replace power distribution center. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in Black/Red wire between power distribution center and fuse block. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
  5. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Remove underhood light bulb. Probe output terminal (in power distribution center) from fuse "E". If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse "E". Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
