Test 14A - Mic Parking Brake Warning Light

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Check if vehicle is equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). If vehicle is equipped with ABS, refer to ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SYSTEM - TEVES-MARK IV article in the BRAKES Section. If vehicle is not equipped with ABS, go to next step.
  2. Check if vehicle has a mechanical/hydraulic problem with brake system. If a problem with brake system is found, repair brake system. See appropriate BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES Section.
  3. If no problem with brake system is found, disconnect parking brake switch connector. Connector is located above brake pedal bracket. If BRAKE warning light is off, replace parking brake switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If BRAKE warning light is on, disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Connector is located on brake fluid reservoir. If BRAKE warning light is off, replace brake fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If BRAKE warning light is on, use DRB-II in ohmmeter mode to check resistance on Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) Gray connector parking brake light control circuit (Gray/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
