Test 21A - Brake Warning Light Circuit

  1. Using DRB-II, stop sequential light test. Check if parking brake is engaged. If engaged, disengage parking brake. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. If parking brake is disengaged, read parking brake switch status using DRB-II. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect parking brake switch connector (on left kick panel).
  3. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace parking brake switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off.
  4. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of White/Black wire of parking brake switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White/Black wire for a short to ground. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. Depress parking brake pedal. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to TEST 21B. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect parking brake switch connector (located on left kick panel). Connect jumper wire between White/Black wire of parking brake switch connector and ground.
  6. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace parking brake switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off.
  7. Disconnect jumper wire used in step 5). Access Body Control Module (BCM). DO NOT  disconnect BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 17 (White/Black wire) of BCM Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open White/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect both BCM connectors. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If connector condition is okay, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
