Test 28A - BRAKELIGHT Out Message

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn headlights on. Ensure turn signal switch is in neutral position. Depress and hold brake pedal down. If all brakelights are out and there is no Electronic Vehicle Instrument Center (EVIC) message, go to TEST 29A  .
  2. If both right brakelights are out and there is no EVIC message, go to TEST 30A  . If both left brakelights are out and there is no EVIC message, go to TEST 31A  . If brakelights are okay but EVIC displays BRAKE LAMP OUT, go to TEST 28B.
  3. If EVIC panel does not display BRAKE LAMP OUT when it should have, go to TEST 28C  . If EVIC panel displays BRAKE LAMP OUT, determine which brakelight is out and perform test specified. See BRAKELIGHT TEST DIRECTORY table.
NOTE: This test does not include center high-mounted stoplight. After a repair is made, turn ignition off to clear EVIC message(s).

Left Lower/Inner 35A 
(1) Imperial is equipped with inner and outer brakelights. Fifth Avenue is equipped with upper and lower brakelights.
