Test 37A - Faulty Coolant Level Message
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Check coolant level. If coolant level is low, check cooling system for leaks and repair as necessary. Fill cooling system to proper level. If cooling system level is okay, read coolant level switch status using DRB-II. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 4). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect coolant level switch connector. Coolant level switch is located in top of coolant expansion tank.
- Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace coolant level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off. Disconnect engine node 12-pin connector. See Figure .
- Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) of coolant level switch connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace engine node. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT OPEN in step 1), disconnect coolant level switch connector. Coolant level switch is located in top of coolant expansion tank. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Green wire) of coolant level switch connector.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace coolant level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) of coolant level switch connector and ground.
- If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect jumper wire and engine node 12-pin connector. See Figure .
- Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Pink/Black wire between terminal No. 1 of coolant level switch connector and terminal No. 6 at engine node 12-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace engine node. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Pink/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
