Test 43A - Fasten Seat Belt Message

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Ensure driver's seat belt is fastened. Using DRB-II, read seat belt switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect seat belt warning switch connector. See Figure .
  2. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace seat belt warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) of seat belt warning switch connector.
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT OPEN in step 1), unfasten driver's seat belt. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, retest system. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect seat belt warning switch connector. See Figure . Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) of seat belt warning switch connector.
  6. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace seat belt warning switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) of seat belt warning switch and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect both BCM connectors. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. Reconnect both BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 17 (Light Green/Red wire) of BCM Black connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Light Green/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
