Test 50B - Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Observe electronic instrument cluster. If oil warning indicator (oil can symbol) is flashing, go to step 6). If oil warning indicator is not flashing, turn engine off. Turn ignition on (engine off). Disconnect oil pressure sending unit connector. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Gray/Yellow wire) of oil pressure sending unit connector and ground.
  2. Using DRB-II, read oil pressure sending unit voltage. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, replace oil pressure sending unit. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays more than one volt, turn ignition off.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Red connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If connector condition is okay, reconnect BCM Red connector. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 11 (Gray/Yellow wire) of BCM Red connector and ground. Turn ignition on (engine off).
  5. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, repair open Gray/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays more than one volt, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If oil warning indicator (oil can symbol) was flashing in step 1), turn engine off. Turn ignition on (engine off). Disconnect oil pressure sending unit connector. Observe electronic instrument cluster. If oil warning indicator is not flashing, replace oil pressure sending unit. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. If oil warning indicator is flashing, turn ignition off. Disconnect electronic instrument cluster 13-pin connector. See Figure . Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  8. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 2 (Gray wire) of oil pressure sending unit connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace electronic instrument cluster. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect BCM Red connector. Check resistance on terminal No. 2 (Gray wire) of oil pressure sending unit connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
