Test 57A - Trunk Ajar Switch Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Check if trunk is closed. If trunk is open, close trunk. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If trunk is closed, read trunk ajar switch status using DRB-II. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 4). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect trunk ajar switch connector. Connector is located in trunk, near trunk latch.
  2. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace trunk ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary.
  3. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/Black wire) of trunk ajar switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT OPEN in step 1), disconnect trunk ajar switch connector. Connector is located in trunk, near trunk latch. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 1 (Tan/Black wire) of trunk ajar switch connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace trunk ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. Reconnect both BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 2 (Tan/Black wire) of BCM Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Tan/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
