Test 59A - Washer Fluid Switch Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Check washer fluid level. If washer fluid is low, add fluid as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If fluid level is okay, read washer fluid switch status using DRB-II. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, go to step 5).
  2. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, replace washer fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, turn ignition off.
  3. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 19 (Black/Tan wire) of BCM Red connector.
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDUREVER-1.
  5. If DRB-II displayed CIRCUIT OPEN in step 1), disconnect washer fluid level switch connector. Connect jumper wire between Black/Tan wire and Black wire terminals of washer fluid level switch connector. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace washer fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, connect jumper wire between Black/Tan wire terminal of washer fluid level switch connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black wire between washer fluid level switch connector and ground. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition off.
  7. Disconnect both BCM connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDUREVER-1.
  8. Reconnect both BCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 19 (Black/Tan wire) of BCM Red connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
