Test 60B - Headlight Doors Will Not Open

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn headlight switch off. Using DRB-II, actuate headlight door test. Check headlight door operation. If headlight doors opened and closed, go to TEST 61A  . If headlight doors did not open and close, stop headlight door test using DRB-II.
  2. Remove headlight door open relay. See Fig 1 . Check relay connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on terminal "D" (Red wire) of headlight door open relay connector.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to TEST 60C. If voltage is less than 10 volts, inspect fuse "C" in power distribution center. See Figure . Power distribution center is located in engine compartment, near left shock tower. If fuse is blown, go to TEST 60D  .

  4. If fuse is okay, remove fuse "C". Check voltage of input terminal (in power distribution center) of fuse "C". If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair or replace power distribution center. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, reinstall fuse "C".
  5. Access relay block behind glove box. Remove 30-amp circuit breaker from relay block. Check voltage of Red/White wire terminal of relay block. See Fig 2 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.

  6. If voltage is more than 10 volts, put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Check resistance on terminal "D" (Red wire) of headlight door open relay connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance of Red wire between 30-amp circuit breaker connector and terminal "D" of headlight door open relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace 30-amp circuit breaker. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
