Test 74B - Left Front Door Ajar With Visual Message Center

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Disconnect left front door ajar switch connector. Connector is located at lower left "B" pillar. Using DRB-II, read door ajar switch status. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace left front door ajar switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect visual message center 11-pin connector. Check condition of connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Inspect visual message center circuit board. Repair or replace circuit board as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If circuit board is okay, ensure DRB-II is still reading door ajar switch status. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair short to ground in Tan/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right side kick panel.
  4. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Turn ignition off. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/White wire) of BCM Black or Red connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect vehicle theft alarm (if equipped). See Figure . Check resistance on terminal No. 1 (Tan/White wire) of BCM Black or Red connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace vehicle theft alarm module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
