Test 144A - Repairing Horn Circuit

NOTE: Perform TEST 141A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-3A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Depress horn button on steering wheel. If horn does not sound, go to step 4). If horn sounds, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read trunk key cylinder switch status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to TEST 144C  . If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Ensure connector is clean and undamaged. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 8 (Black/Red wire) on BCM Black connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Black/Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Ensure connector is clean and undamaged. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 8 (Black/Red wire) on BCM Black connector and ground. If horn sounds, replace BCM. If horn does not sound, go to next step.
  5. Remove horn relay. See Figure . Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal "A" (Red wire) on horn relay connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to TEST 144B  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Measure voltage at terminal "E" (Red wire) on horn relay connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminal No. 8 (Black/Red wire) on BCM Black connector and terminal "C" on horn relay connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black/Red wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  8. Connect jumper wire between terminal "A" (Red wire) and terminal "B" (Dark Green/Red wire) on horn relay connector. If horn sounds, replace horn relay. If horn does not sound, repair open Dark Green/Red wire.
