Test 65A - Faulty Temperature Gauge/Lamp

NOTE: Perform TEST 55A  or 58A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure engine cooling system is operating properly. Repair as necessary. If engine cooling system is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select engine controller. If scan tool does not display ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to TEST 114A  . If scan tool displays ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) trouble codes. If scan tool displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, see TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If scan tool does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, go to next step.
  4. If scan tool displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, see TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If scan tool does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, replace PCM. PCM is located under air cleaner.
