Test 56C - Checking Ambient Temperature Sensor For Shorts

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector, located on inside of left front bumper. Using DRB, read ambient temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, replace ambient temperature sensor. If voltage is less than 4 volts, go to next step.
  2. Place DRB in ohmmeter mode. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect compass/temperature module connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 6 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. If voltage is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector between terminals No. 6 (Violet/Green wire) and No. 8 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Violet/Light Green wire and Black/Light Blue wire.
