Instrument Cluster Test 12A - Brake Warning Light

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 4A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK brake article under BRAKES. If vehicle is not equipped with anti-lock brakes, go to next step.
  2. Ensure parking brake lever is fully released and operates smoothly and does not bind. If parking brake lever does not operate properly, repair as necessary. If parking brake operates properly, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on with engine off. If brake warning light is not on, go to next step. If brake warning light is on, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 12B.
  4. Turn engine over and watch brake warning light. If brake warning light came on while engine turned over, go to next step. If brake warning light did not come on while engine turned over, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 12C  .
  5. Apply parking brake lever. If brake warning light does not come on, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 12D  . If brake warning light comes on, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 12E  .
