Test 141A - Identifying Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) Problems
NOTE:
Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A
- IDENTIFYING VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM PROBLEMS before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
in this article. Perform TEST VER-3A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- If VTSS indicator light stays on constant, perform TEST 155A . Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located at right of steering column. Select THEFT ALARM. If scan tool screen is blank or displays a bus failure message, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 142A . If scan tool displays MONITOR DISPLAY, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, and then MONITOR DISPLAY. Read Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) status. If VTSS status is not DISARMED, go to TEST 141B . If VTSS status is DISARMED, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select BODY and then BODY CONTROLLER. Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If BATTERY POWER TO MODULE fault message is displayed, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS . If scan tool does not display BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DTC, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, MISCELLANEOUS, CHANGE MODE and then DIAGNOSTICS to put VTSS in diagnostics mode. If scan tool does not display PUT IGNITION IN OFF POSITION, go to TEST 143A . If scan tool displays PUT IGNITION IN OFF POSITION, go to next step.
