Test 49A - Headlights Inoperative In Auto Mode

NOTE: Perform TEST 47A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If headlights toggle on and off, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind right kick panel. If headlights do not toggle on and off, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Gray connector. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 2 (Red/Dark Blue wire) on BCM Gray connector. If headlights illuminate, replace BCM. If headlights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Remove headlight time delay relay from junction block. See Figure . Junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal "A" (Red/White wire) on headlight time delay relay socket. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal "C" (Red/White wire) on headlight time delay relay socket. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Connect jumper wire between terminals "A" (Red/White wire) and "B" (Light Green wire) on headlight time delay relay socket. If headlights do not illuminate, repair open Light Green wire. If headlights illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect jumper wire. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminal "E" on headlight time delay relay socket and terminal No. 2 (Red/Dark Blue wire) on BCM Gray connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Red/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight time delay relay.
