Test 73A - Diagnosing Parking Brake Warning Lamp

NOTE: Perform TEST 58A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), see BRAKE SYSTEM - ANTI-LOCK article in the BRAKES section. If vehicle is not equipped with ABS, disengage parking brake if set. Ensure parking brake lever moves freely. If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate with empty brake fluid reservoir, go to TEST 73B  . Turn ignition on. If BRAKE warning lamp illuminates, go to TEST 73E  . If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Depress parking brake. If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate, go to TEST 73C  . If BRAKE warning lamp illuminates, release parking brake. Crank engine while monitoring BRAKE warning lamp. If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate, go to TEST 73D  . If BRAKE warning lamp illuminates, system is currently operating properly.
