Test 135A - Bus Short To Ground

  1. Back probe jumper wire between Data Link Connector (DLC) ground terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire). If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, repair open ground wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located at left front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off and disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located under air cleaner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace PCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off and disconnect anti-lock brake controller, if equipped. Controller is located on left fenderwell of engine compartment, behind anti-lock brake pump motor. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace anti-lock brake controller. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect Overhead Traveler Information System (OTIS) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace OTIS module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off and disconnect auto temp control head connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace auto temp control head. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off and disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace instrument cluster. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace BCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ABCM) 13-pin connector. ABCM is located under center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace ABCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
  10. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance on BCM Bone connector, terminal No. 8 (Violet/Brown wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet/Brown wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
  11. Measure resistance on BCM Bone connector, terminal No. 7 (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary.
NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring schematics, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article. Perform TEST VER-1 - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
