Keyless Entry System: Description

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.

The remote keyless entry system allows for locking and unlocking of the vehicle doors and trunk by remote control, using a hand-held radio transmitter. The ignition switch must be off before the trunk lid can be unlocked with the transmitter. The receiver (module) may receive signals from 2 transmitters. Each transmitter has its own code which is stored in memory. If the transmitter is replaced, or a second one added, the code from both units has to be placed in memory. No more than 2 transmitters can be used. The receiver is capable of retaining memory even when power is removed. The transmitter will operate within approximately 30 feet of the receiver. The transmitter has 2 replaceable 3-volt batteries. Battery life is about one to 2 years.
