Pump Motor Circuit Not Working Properly

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM.
  1. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate MOTOR PUMP. If pump/motor can be heard running, go to TEST 17B. If pump/motor cannot be heard, go to next step.
  2. Stop actuator test. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) at pump/motor relay connector. See Figure . If reading is less than 10 volts, go to TEST 17C. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, backprobe terminal "C" (Brown/White wire) at pump/motor relay connector. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open in Brown/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, backprobe terminal "A" (Gray wire) at pump/motor relay connector. If reading is less than 10 volts, replace pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Connect a jumper wire between chassis ground and terminal "A" (Gray wire) at pump/motor relay connector. If pump/motor can be heard running, disconnect jumper wire and go to TEST 17D. If pump/motor cannot be heard, go to next step.
  6. Ensure jumper wire is still connected. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe terminal "B" (Brown/White wire) at pump/motor relay connector. If reading is less than 10 volts, replace pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect pump/motor connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on Brown/White wire at pump/motor connector. See Figure . If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open in Brown/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of Black wire at pump/motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace pump/motor. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1A.
