Floor Shift

  1. Remove floor shift handle. Remove bezel from shift console. Remove driver's side kick panel from center console. Loosen adjustment nut on interlock lever. See Fig 1. Place ignition key (lock cylinder) in RUN position.
  2. Remove interlock cable from shift housing. Slide cable out of groove in interlock lever. With lock cylinder in OFF position and ignition key removed, cable core wire should not move when pulled.
  3. With ignition key (lock cylinder) in RUN position, cable core should slide freely when pulled. Cable should return to bottomed out position when released. If cable core does not operate as indicated, cable is improperly installed or is kinked. Repair or replace cable as necessary.
  4. Place shift lever in Park position. Slide interlock cable core wire into groove on adjustment lever. Ensure cable end seats in groove. Slip cable into housing until it snaps into place.
  5. Ensure shift lever is in Park position. With ignition switch in OFF position, remove ignition key from lock cylinder. When adjustment nut on interlock lever is loosened, cable indexes itself to correct position. Tighten adjustment nut.

  7. Without starting engine, place ignition switch in RUN position. Move shift lever to Reverse position. You should not be able to remove ignition key from lock cylinder. If key can be removed, readjust interlock mechanism and tighten adjustment nut.
  8. Place shift lever in Park position. Turn ignition key to OFF position. You should be able to remove ignition key from lock cylinder. If key cannot be removed, readjust interlock mechanism and tighten adjustment nut.
  9. If interlock mechanism operates properly, install bezel on shift console. Install shift lever handle. Install driver's side kick panel to center console.
