Modulator Fault
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see wiring diagram.
NOTE:
When modulator assembly connector is disconnected, PUMP/MOTOR fault will be set. Disregard this fault.
- Using scan tool, erase trouble codes. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. After 5 seconds, use scan tool to read trouble codes. If scan tool displays MODULATOR CIRCUIT, go to next step. If scan tool does not display MODULATOR CIRCUIT, visually inspect wiring and connections, and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If wiring and connections are okay, system is operating normally at this time. Perform TEST VER-1A.
- Ensure modulator assembly connector is properly connected. If connection is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If connection is okay, turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect modulator assembly 10-pin connector. If connector is damaged, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of modulator assembly 10-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 10 (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate left front decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on modulator assembly 10-pin connector terminal No. 9 (Brown/Yellow wire). If voltage does not toggle from zero to 10 or more volts, go to TEST 9B. If voltage toggles from zero to 10 or more volts, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate right front decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on modulator assembly 10-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If voltage does not toggle from zero to 10 or more volts, go to TEST 9C. If voltage toggles from zero to 10 or more volts, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate left rear decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on modulator assembly 10-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If voltage does not toggle from zero to 10 or more volts, go to TEST 9D. If voltage toggles from zero to 10 or more volts, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate right rear decay solenoid. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on modulator assembly 10-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Light Blue wire). If voltage does not toggle from zero to 10 or more volts, go to TEST 9E. If voltage toggles from zero to 10 or more volts, go to next step.
- Stop actuator test. Reconnect modulator assembly 10-pin connector. Turn ignition off and close all doors. Disconnect CAB 60-pin connector. Inspect, clean and repair connector as necessary. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between chassis ground and terminals No. 42 (Brown/Yellow wire), No. 43 (Dark Green/Yellow wire), No. 46 (Brown/Light Blue wire) and No. 48 (Dark Green/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 1-6 ohms on all terminals, replace CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is not 1-6 ohms on all terminals, replace modulator assembly. Perform TEST VER-1A.
