Test 117A - Intermittent Wiper Problem

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Using scan tool, actuate wiper motor. If wipers operate during actuation, go to TEST 117B. If wipers do not operate during actuation, go to next step.
  2. Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe BCM Black connector terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/White wire). While probe is connected, actuate wiper motor using scan tool. If voltage pulses from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, go to step 4). If voltage does not pulse from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Black connector. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on. Check voltage on BCM Black connector terminal No. 11 (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM.
  4. Turn ignition off. Gain access to right pod switch connector. See Figure. Disconnect and inspect right side pod switch connector. Clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition on and go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on right pod switch connector terminal No. 8 (Dark Green/White wire). Actuate wiper motor. If voltage does not pulse from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, repair open in Dark Green/White wire. If voltage pulses from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, replace right wiper switch in switch pod.
