Test 43A - Faulty Low Oil Message
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
NOTE:
Faulty low oil message will set only after ignition is off for 12 minutes and oil level is low.
- Ensure oil is at recommended level. Allow vehicle to sit for 12 minutes. Turn ignition on. Observe EVIC messages for one minute. If EVIC message CHK ENGINE OIL LEVEL does not appear briefly, go to step 5). If CHK ENGINE OIL LEVEL message appears briefly, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read oil level switch status. If scan tool displays OIL LEVEL CLOSED, replace engine node, located on inner front bumper. If scan tool does not display OIL LEVEL CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect engine oil level switch connector, located on side of oil pan. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Connect jumper wire between oil level switch connector terminal (Brown/Gray wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays OIL LEVEL CLOSED, replace oil level switch. If scan tool does not display OIL LEVEL CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect engine node connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Brown/Gray wire between engine node connector terminal No. 10 and engine oil level switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace engine node. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Gray wire between oil level switch connector and engine node connector.
- Drain engine oil. Turn ignition on. Observe EVIC messages for one minute. If EVIC message CHK ENGINE OIL LEVEL appears briefly, system is operating properly at this time. If CHK ENGINE OIL LEVEL does not appear, go to next step.
- Disconnect oil level switch connector. Using scan tool, read oil level switch status. If scan tool displays OIL LEVEL OPEN, replace oil level switch. If scan tool does not display OIL LEVEL OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect engine node connector, located on inner front bumper. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of engine node connector terminal No. 10 (Brown/Gray wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Brown/Gray wire for short to ground between engine node connector and oil level switch. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace engine node.
