Test 47B - Left Headlamp Out

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Remove and inspect fuse No. 17. See Figure. If fuse is okay, go to step 4). If fuse is open, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect lamp outage module connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Violet/Gray wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet/Gray wire between lamp outage module connector and fuse No. 17 for short to ground. Replace fuse No. 17.
  3. Disconnect left low beam headlamp connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Check resistance of lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 14 (Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet wire between lamp outage module connector and left front headlamp connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace lamp outage module and fuse No. 17.
  4. Reinstall fuse. Disconnect left low beam headlamp connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between left headlamp connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and terminal No. 2 (Violet wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace left headlamp. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlamp connector terminal No. 2 (Violet wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Black wire between left headlamp connector and chassis ground. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Gain access to lamp outage module. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 14 (Violet wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Violet wire between lamp outage module connector and left headlamp connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Reinstall left headlamp. With lamp outage module connector connected, connect jumper wire between lamp outage module 14-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Violet/Gray wire) and terminal No. 14 (Violet wire). If left headlamp illuminates, replace lamp outage module. If left headlamp does not illuminate, go to next step.
  8. Check voltage on fuse block terminal No. 17 (Violet/White wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open Violet/Gray wire between fuse block terminal No. 17 and lamp outage module. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Violet/White wire between fuse block terminal No. 17 and low beam headlamp relay.
