Test 48A - Key In Ignition Message
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
- Ensure ignition is on. Using scan tool, read key in ignition switch status. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to step 5). If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove ignition key. Open left front door. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN OPEN, system is operating properly at this time. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect key in ignition switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN OPEN, replace ignition switch. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN OPEN, go to next step.
- Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM), located behind right kick panel. Disconnect BCM Black connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Black connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair Light Blue wire for short to ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace BCM.NOTE: Ensure left front door remains open for remainder of test procedure.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect key in ignition switch connector. Connect jumper wire between key-in lamp switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Orange wire) and terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). Ensure left front door is open. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, replace key in ignition switch. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between key-in lamp switch connector terminal No 2 (Light Blue wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, repair open Light Blue wire. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Gain access to BCM, located behind right kick panel. With connectors connected, connect jumper wire between BCM Black connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) and chassis ground. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, repair open Light Blue wire. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, replace BCM.
