Test 49A - Low Brake Fluid
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
- If brake system is not operating properly, repair brakes as necessary. If brake system is operating properly, check brake fluid level in reservoir. If fluid level is not within specification, fill reservoir or repair brake system as necessary. If fluid level is within specification, go to next step.
- Start engine. Observe EVIC panel. If EVIC panel does not display CHECK BRAKES, go to step 5). If EVIC panel displays CHECK BRAKES, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Start engine. Observe EVIC panel. If EVIC panel does not display CHECK BRAKES, replace brake fluid level switch. If EVIC panel displays CHECK BRAKES, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect engine node connector, located on inner front bumper. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of engine node connector terminal No. 3 (Gray/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray/Red wire for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace engine node.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Connect a jumper wire between brake fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1 (Gray/Red wire) and terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Green wire). Start engine. Observe EVIC panel. If EVIC panel displays CHECK BRAKES, replace brake fluid level switch. If EVIC panel does not display CHECK BRAKES, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between brake fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1 (Gray/Red wire) and chassis ground. Start engine. Observe EVIC panel. If EVIC panel displays CHECK BRAKES, repair Black/Light Green wire between brake fluid level switch connector and engine node for short to ground. If EVIC panel does not display CHECK BRAKES, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect engine node connector, located on inner front bumper. Using an external ohmmeter, Check resistance of Gray/Red wire between engine node connector terminal No. 3 and brake fluid level switch connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Red wire between engine node connector and brake fluid level switch connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace engine node.
