Test 5A - Chime Operates With Key Out Of Ignition

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. Remove key from ignition switch. Ensure headlamps and parking lamps are off. Open left front door. If chime does not sound, system is okay at this time. If chime sounds, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read key in ignition status. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to TEST 5B. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGN CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read park lamp status. if scan tool displays PARK LAMPS OFF, replace Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool does not display PARK LAMPS OFF, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect BCM Natural connector. BCM is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on BCM Natural connector terminal No. 8 (Brown wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair Brown wire for short to voltage. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace BCM.
